Iceberg grounded in McMurdo Sound. Note the seals on the ice at its base. The men found the animals to be unafraid and hence easy to hunt using rifles or even clubs. Seal was a frequent item on the menu. A particular favorite was seal liver curry, which is rich in vitamin C. These and other aspects of diet are a focus of the book.
